McCormick School of Engineering student Cuyler Dull ’20 is making the most of his time at Northwestern. In addition to studying mechanical engineering with a focus on design, he has participated in activities ranging from building a Formula-style racing car to playing on the club soccer and sailing teams.

Dull also is among the 60 percent of undergraduates whose Northwestern experiences have been made possible through scholarships and financial aid. The University is able to provide this support thanks to alumni and friends who have committed to making Northwestern affordable and accessible through their philanthropy.

“Financial aid has alleviated my stress about post-graduation debt,” says Dull, “and it has also allowed me to participate in clubs and programs with dues and other costs.”

Planned gifts are critical to the University’s efforts to offer financial support to current and future students. The scholarship awarded to Dull was created through a bequest from Marilyn J. Blum ’52, ’64 MA. Blum worked with Northwestern Gift Planning during her lifetime to ensure that her wishes—to provide financial support to deserving undergraduate students—would be fulfilled in the future.

“Supporting financial aid at Northwestern is a great investment,” Dull says. “It makes an incredible difference in the lives of students like me.”
