Student Spotlight: Sam Arrants ’20

Sam Arrants

Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences junior Sam Arrants ’20 grew up in rural Florida, attending high school in one of the state’s poorest districts. The first in his family to attend college, he is now thriving at Northwestern—studying computer science, participating in a variety of extracurricular organizations, and preparing for a career in tech.

Like many of his classmates, Arrants’ Northwestern experience was made possible through financial aid. The University awards financial aid to more than 60 percent of its undergraduates, and is able to make this commitment thanks to the generosity of alumni, parents, and friends who share a compelling vision to make Northwestern accessible and affordable through their philanthropy.

Planned gifts play a vital role in the University’s efforts to meet 100 percent of demonstrated financial need, ensuring that future generations of students benefit from scholarship funds like the one set up by Margot (Kathy) Dishner Kluender ’71, ’72 MS and her husband, Marc C. Kluender, PhD.

“I am truly having the time of my life,” says Arrants, who is grateful for the many educational, career development, and other life experiences he has had. “The course of my life has been drastically redirected by the immense generosity of Northwestern donors.”
